Way to go girls!!!

I think someone must have told the girls about my last post, and they realized they better start earning their keep. This morning when I went out to freshen their water and food, I found this...

Do you see it....there amidst the shavings and poop?  What about now?

There it is!  The first sacred egg from one of my lovely hens!  It was cold, so I have no idea when it was laid or by whom, but I had one very curious onlooker when I was making such a fuss and taking pictures.

We have suspected all along that Cayenne and Poppy would be the first to lay.  They seemed to mature faster, and yesterday they were both  very vocal.

Cayenne remained in the coop for a long time, pacing and fluffing and squatting.  I was so hoping to watch her lay an egg right before my eyes, but she was too dignified for that.

The egg was light brown, perfectly shaped, with not a speck of dirt or a scratch on it.  It was beautiful!

The girls kept going in and out of the coop, even though they had free access to the yard, so I surmised that someone else might be ready to gift me with another egg.  About a half hour later, I went back out to the coop, opened the door, found a chicken convention, and another egg....still warm!

I praised the girls like crazy and asked them to tell me who was responsible for today's bounty, but they refused.  Apparently, matching eggs to hens is a well-guarded secret around here!

WE HAVE EGGS!  WE HAVE EGGS!  WOO HOO!!!

that is just too funny! I did the very same thing when my first eggs came. They do get quite vocal when laying is going on, so keep a lookout..your sure to get lucky to watch the event soon. Congratulations!!

I'm so glad for you !!! and poppy and cayenne too...
those eggs will taste better than any you have ever had before (just like your first home grown tomatoes were).

Are both eggs the same color ? maybe over time you'll be able to match eggs and hens....

CONGRATS!!!!! Isn't it just too cool to get those first eggs? Soon enough, they wont care if you watch as they lay them, it will just be an everyday thing... Enjoy!
