Big Scores at the Restore

Over the weekend, Neal and I stopped in one of our favorite places, The Habitat for Humanity Restore. We scored big with a metal door and frame for $35. Never mind that it is pink on one side...

that's what paint is for, right? Have you priced new metal doors with frames lately? For $35, I can live with the pink for quite a while!

Just when you thought there would never be another bargain as good as a $35 door, it gets even better! We found three cabinets for the kitchen for a total of $75! Have you priced new kitchen cabinets lately...

especially ones with these nifty pull-out drawers? Another couple was really eyeing "our" cabinets, so when they walked away to browse some more, Neal ran off to find an employee to tag the cabinets "sold". I lurked from the distance, not wanting to be identified as the cabinet thieves.

We changed our minds about doing the ceiling in galvanized metal and went with a bead board type wood. Neal and a buddy worked on putting it up in one day. All that's lacking is a small area around the light fixture in the bathroom.

Speaking of the bathroom...here it is! Fully equipped with a dual flush toilet, pedestal sink and tub/shower with a massaging shower head. Who says you can't have luxury in the country?

I know, I know. You just don't believe it can get any better, right? Well, hang on to your hats, it does! We now have a phone line at The Ranch! Yes, Virginia, there IS a Santa Claus and he is alive and well and living in the country!

The Ranch is looking so awesome!! Y'all have done a lot of work in a short period of time. I love the ceiling - and the bathroom looks wonderful. And now you have a telephone! I remember how "real" our homestead felt when we finally got a telephone. You got some super bargains at the ReStore! I just googled and it looks like we have one about an hour from us. We're definitely going to pay them a visit in the very near future.

You did luck up on some good deals with the cabinets and door... pink is o.k. adds a little color :-)
and you are really uptown with indoor plumbing that works!!! With a phone line that means your laptop can go with you... and you can blog from there !
Did your cell phones work there in the mountains?

OMG! You guys are making some fantastic progress out there!! It looks amazing.

You *did* find some great deals at the Restore. I love that place. We have one in town that I go to. Those cabinets are so nice. I can see why the other people were eyeing them.

Penny....thanks! yes, we really have come a long way, considering we broke ground in May. So glad to hear you have a ReStore nearby. You really must go visit and let me know what you think!

Arnetta...thanks! I am so thrilled with our ReStore finds! I felt like a kid in a candy store that day. And, watching our plumbing process from start to finish definitely gives me a new appreciation for indoor plumbing! Our cell phone service is very unpredictable out there, and non-existent on our property, so getting a land line was a must.

Marcee...thanks! Don't you just love the ReStore? What kind of deals have you found at your local store? Now that Penny has found one near her, we'll have to share stories about our bargains!

SVB...thank you! Yes, it is all starting to come together now and it is very exciting. Can't wait to get all the technical stuff out of the way so we can begin moving in some furniture and make it really feel like a home.
