I don't want to jinx it, but I think we might have really lucked out with our construction crew. They are working so quickly and everything is starting to look awesome. See...
Above is a front shot of the garage/apartment, which we intentionally chose to face south for solar access. The apartment will be to the left, and the two-car garage to the right. It looks pretty large, but the whole structure is only 864 square feet....about 300 of that is the apartment. Below is a view from the kitchen window, which faces north. From here we can see the open valley that is our backyard, a small mountain, and a windmill in the distance. We decided to go with 2x6 framing to allow for extra insulation and a sturdier structure.
Here's the west side, with the larger window in the living area and the smaller one in the bathroom.
Here is the back side, which faces north. The left window is in the garage, and the right one is the kitchen window pictured above. The ledge below the windows is a type of scaffolding the workers are using to stand on for access to the roof.
Below is the view of our pride and joy from the road. You can see Neal's green shed to the left, as well as the porta-potty we rented for the workers. Aren't we kind? We decided on doors and Neal delivered them and the windows to our site yesterday, minus one window which didn't make it in with the rest. That's the latest update. If the weather holds out, there is a good chance the construction crew will be finished next week. Then, the work really begins for us. Slow and steady wins the race, right?

Lilla, I just love it. It really is going up so quickly! And I think it will be a fun challenge to finish up the inside yourselves - you'll be so proud when it's done. Soon you'll be calling yourself the "ex-city girl" ya know.
Thanks, Penny. I think you are right that it will be a challenge, but I am hoping we can keep it fun with our minds on the finished product that we will enjoy so much. Can't wait to see our $10 kitchen sink in place! Ex-city girl has a nice ring to it....
it will be a challenge but such a worthwhile one!
and the sense of accomplishment will be through the roof (haha)!
Hi Daune, through the roof that someone else is installing! At least we knew better than to tackle that one!
It will definitely be worth all the sweat and tears we put into it once it's done. I mean, who wouldn't want to watch the sun rise and set in such a gorgeous place?
Thats some great progress. And even tho the size of the place seems small, man, Id live in just about anything to be on a ranch like that with a view like that!
Yeaaaay! Looks fabulous. It was so exciting to be there and watch it get started from the foundation itself. You really did get lucky with that crew, they seem like good guys. Woo hoo!
