Here Comes the Rain

We've hit record high temps and extremely low moisture levels this year, which in an arid climate like Colorado is not a good thing. As a result, we've had lots of fires in the state, some resulting in losses of homes. This time of year, all it takes is the spark from a lawn mower or a lightning strike to send a field or a forest up in flames. So, any bit of moisture (aka rain) we can get is a welcomed experience.

Yesterday, on my way home, it started to sprinkle. Usually, what we call rain here in Colorado is a light drizzle or sprinkles for a matter of minutes, then it's gone. Nothing at all like the down pours I'm used to in the South. I was thrilled when the sprinkles turned into larger drops, causing me to turn my windshield wipers from low to medium. And when I drove through huge pools of water in some of the low-lying spots, I sent up a silent prayer - in part for the wonderful deliverance of rain and also as a plea to get me home safely before the weather got any worse.

When I got home, it was still raining at a slow but steady pace. Captain was excitedly pacing back and forth at the back door, wanting to go out and relish in the cool, fresh, wetness of the evening. Nadia and George were pacing as far away from the back door as possible, hoping I wouldn't insist they go out! Since we hadn't experienced a good, long rain in a while, I couldn't resist grabbing my camera to document the sound of the rain and gentle thunder, as well as the silliness of that red dog as he frolicked in the rain. I apologize for the unsteadiness of the camera in some spots, but that occurred when I was trying to keep up with his frenzied running around.

You'll notice at the end of the video, he lifts his leg to pee - a gesture I can only interpret as his approval of the day's abundant gifts from Mother Nature.
