On a trip last year to a nearby mountain town, we discovered some very cool pet bowl holders made from reclaimed Aspen trees. Neal and I both liked the idea and the design, but the products were a bit too pricey for us. Because Neal is so handy with a hammer and nails, I suggested he try his hand at making something similar for our crew.
He was intrigued with the idea and the challenge, but it took several months before he finally gave it a shot. He gathered some pine logs from a downed tree on our Ranch property...
used the stainless steel bowls we already had and slapped on a couple of coats of stain...
and, voila! We have a rustic, handmade dog bowl stand for a fraction of the cost of those in specialty stores!
It took the dogs a little while to get used to it, but the cats had no issues. Even though there are multiple water bowls all over our house, much easier to access than this one, this is the preferred watering hole.
Not only is it an excellent watering hole, it makes a mighty fine resting perch!

Ohhhhhhh, I love it! It is just gorgeous - and anything that gets the cats approval *must* be perfect ;) Neal is so talented. I really, really love that!
Wow - beautiful! Funny that the cats were the first to give it the test.

it looks great - i love that the bark is still left on the wood.
