Did you know that sod is really not that expensive when you only buy one piece? I mean, for $2.50 the ladies now have luxury plush carpeting full of nutritious greens and bugs. Nowhere in our backyard can they find grass so thick and green...even though we spent over $600 sodding the whole yard a couple of years ago!
Knowing what I do about chickens and their tendency to destroy anything green, I am sure that patch of sod won't last through the summer. And their run will soon resemble our backyard.
But, in the meantime, I have four happy birds and one happy husband... and that makes me happy.

Awwww, you and Neil are such wonderful chickens 'parents'. :)
LOVE it!!! You absolutely totally made me smile. See, everybody's happy. :)
AJ-OAKS...thanks! You are a wonderful critter parent, as well! Our kind must stick together, you know?
MorningBray...Look at that! I made another being happy! Life is good, yes?
The things we won't do for our chickens! This is hysterical. What's next, a jacuzzi?
I never would have thought to buy sod for chickens - that's an original and creative idea. I'm sure you have some very happy and spoiled ladies there.
Those are some lucky little ladies there! I love your new header picture - very pretty :)
Linda...if anyone is getting a jacuzzi around here, it will be the humans! We do tend to go over the top for our critters, don't we?
SVB...leave it to my husband to come up with unusual, creative ideas. Yes, the girls seem quite happy.
Penny...they are lucky ladies indeed. They bring us a lot of joy so it's totally worth it. Can't wait until they start producing eggs!
that's a wonderful amount of happy :)
