The Latest

Catnip Party

The saga with aging and ill animals continues at our home.  I feel as if there is a big, black cloud hanging over us these days. We have been visiting the vet clinic 2-3 times a week for at least a month, for various check-ups and newly found ailments.  We are still working to regulate insulin levels in Taco and Nadia.  Our vet says it can take a while to find the right dosages, but yesterday she assured me we were almost there.

Olivia had to have another mammary tumor removed, much smaller but similar to what she had removed last year.  She is recovering nicely.  Yesterday, Taco was diagnosed with a mast cell skin cancer that will need to be removed.  Nadia has a fluid-filled cyst that appears benign, so we will just watch it for now; her eyes are beginning to cloud with the early stages of cataracts.  And Captain is going to hydrotherapy twice a week, but his leg is getting no better; in fact, it may be getting worse.  We will continue to do the therapy and re-x-ray his knee at the end of the month.  While surgery is the absolute last thing we want to do, we might be faced with that option if nothing else will work.  Our neighbors' dog had ACL surgery last year and she is doing great; however, for every success story there is a horror story.  All we want is a good quality of life for our boy, one where he is free to romp and play without pain or difficulty.

We have been trying to sell one of our businesses for nine months.  We have a buyer prospect, but negotiations are proving to be difficult and tiring.  Just when we think it''s time to sign on the dotted line, more questions and road blocks arise.  I am seriously ready for this chapter to be over!

On a more positive note, The Ranch is beckoning us to come and live there permanently.  We have almost all the solar equipment we need and Neal is currently getting installation bids.  We now have a refrigerator, window blinds and two wood stoves.  We are gradually moving things a load at a time, in preparation for a full move later this summer.  It's nice to know there are some things we can still control in this crazy, overstimulated, fast-paced world!

Aww Lila, I was wondering how things were going.

You've got your hands full but it's nothing you can't handle. This will pass, and your dream will be a reality. Write it down, put it in your bathroom where you'll see it every day, and keep saying it to yourself throughout the day. You WILL achieve your goals, I know it.

In the meantime, love your animals all you can and know that despite their health issues they are doing much better than any human can. Watching the way they cope with adversity is a good way to handle our own trials.

Hang in there.

Oh my, you do have a full plate right now, don't you? It's so awful when one of our animals isn't feeling well, but it sounds like everyone's needing you at once. I hope everyone improves quickly and you all are at the ranch lickity-split!

Oh no :( That's a lot of stuff happening with your babies all at once. I sure hope things settle down and everyone is doing better soon. And I will keep my fingers crossed that you are able to sell the business and get moved up to your ranch quickly. I think country living will be good for all of you :)
