Today, we broke ground on our country property where we will have a garage/apartment built. Neal got up before the chickens and headed out to meet the excavator/concrete guy so he could document this exciting moment in history (and supervise the action). Since one of us had to mind the store, I stayed behind and lived vicariously through Neal's play-by-play and photos. And now, I shall share some of today's activity with you.
This is the entrance to our drive and our first address sign that Neal built and painted...
This is the building site...
Our well to the left and official building permit sign to the right...
Here's Pat, our excavator/concrete guy and his faithful assistant, Goldie...
No trip to the country would be complete without seeing the wild turkeys...
Next week we hope to get the rough-in plumbing done, then Pat will return to pour the foundation. After that, the builder will do his thing and everything will begin to take shape. Then it will be up to us to put on the finishing touches. Our building permit is good for two years, so hopefully that will be enough time for us to learn as we go and produce a liveable structure!

Are you gonna be living in the apartment structure?
Thanks, Jon. It's starting to seem real now!
Frugalmom, our plans are to use the apartment as a temporary weekend/holiday place until we can get a house built. It's only going to be 864 sq ft-including the garage area-so it would be a little cramped for us and all the critters to live in fulltime!
wow! that is exciting!!
you will be living on your own land in no time!
Daune, that's the plan, but all good things come to those who wait....or something along those lines! Unless one of those seedlings I planted happens to be a money tree...
Looks great! Are you going to invite the remaining McPhearson tribe to camp out?
Hey Cuz, of course the tribe is welcomed to come camp out any time. But, I think the more important question is...will anyone come???
That is SO awesome!!!! I can't imagine how excited you are. Congratulations! Soon you'll be staying on your property in style - and it's going to get harder and harder to leave it..... can't wait to see the pictures as this progresses.
Penny, it IS very exciting and I can't wait until we are spending more time on our little piece of paradise.
Stay tuned for updates. The plumber starts next week!
