Whole Wheat Dog Cookies

Jerry's mom, Rene, at LiveWorkDream asked for the recipe for the dog treats that I mentioned a couple of days ago. I have a compilation of lots of dog treats and goodies, but this is the tried and true one that I use quite often. It's very forgiving and easy to adapt to whatever ingredients you have on hand. And best of all, the pups love it!

Whole Wheat Dog Cookies

2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/4 cup milk or powdered milk
1 clove garlic, crushed
4 Tablespoons margarine or butter, softened
1 egg, beaten
1 Tablespoon molasses or brown sugar
water

Combine flour, wheat germ, garlic and salt in a large bowl. Cut in margarine. Stir in beaten egg, molasses and milk. Add enough water so mixture can be shaped into a ball. Roll dough onto a floured board to a thickness of 1/2 inch. Cut into shapes and place on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes, remove from oven and let cool. These freeze well.

Optional ingredients that can be added include Parmesan cheese, sunflower seeds, rolled oats, peanut butter, brewer's yeast and pureed vegetables. You may need to adjust the amount of liquid depending upon the amount of dry ingredients used.

There ya go, Jerry. Hope you enjoy!
